Our podcast started after having been discussed on many occasions but never really getting any further than stating, “we really should do a podcast”. We were fans of podcasts as diverse as CoffeeGeek, The Piss Poor Podcast & The Two John’s Podcast. We became huge fans of The Velocast when John & Scot started it & they created a massively successful podcast which spawned a community of listeners who felt a great sense of engagement with the show. When they stopped producing the show, we missed the community and so we decided, as the logical extension of our blog, (which had been in existence since 2008) to start producing the Velo Club Don Logan podcast.
We never cease to be amazed by the fact that anyone is actually listening but we get a great deal of enjoyment from the feedback that we get from our loyal listeners. We like to think that we have built our own small community who feel a part of the podcast. Part of the reason for this, we believe, is that we present ourselves as fans of cycling, no more & no less and in that regard, we are exactly the same as our listeners, who love talking about cycling as much as they love riding their bikes.
We try to record on a 3-weekly schedule which begins with us collating stories, topics for discussion and interviews ahead of recording the show. We usually get together on a Sunday night to record, which involves sitting in Sausage Roll Studios with a couple of condenser mics, headphones, a mixing desk & a digital recorder. Interviews are usually conducted using Skype. Thereafter, we edit the recording (currently using Sony Acid Music Studio) add in some music and get it uploaded before we let it loose on an unsuspecting listenership.
