Etape Preparation:
Proper athletes call it a “nutrition strategy”. I call it “better not run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere – it’s a long walk home”. So I’ve stocked up on gels & bars, I’ll get some bananas & a big bag of Jelly Babies – how’s that for a nutrition strategy!
The sage advice that I was given by an experienced cyclist today was, “whatever you do, don’t go into the red”. That sounds like a recipe for going really slow up the hills – I like it!
Also found out that the Etape will be supported by the Mavic Neutral Service dudes. I expect to hear hearty laughter every time they pass me! Still, it’ll make me feel like I’m Lance – but with the extra ball, obviously!
Today’s post brought to you by nervous anxiety.

its only 82 miles man. looks like your doing the whole f&$^%ng tour. too many men in lycra for my liking, and where are you going to store all these gels (oo er missus). if your struggling on the hills just shout Don’s favourite word at the top of your voice. it will get you through.
ps – is Gary dead, he hasn’t been on in ages
Ah, reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated! Sadly, I can’t access the blog from the office (Government IT security/censorship – cnuts) so I’m limited to eveningtide!
Impressive calorie count there BMFW. I’m reckoning on a bottle of Go and a Powerbar in the back pocket for a 10 Under lap too!
PS – Mrs Stumpyrider (or should be just be called Stumpy?
) wants to know if she can join our merry band. She CAN access the blog during working hours (seems our NHS buddies have no problems with their staff accessing crap!) and would like to rip the pure p1sh out of her beloved – and sometimes even me – without fear of immediate riposte.
ONLY 82 miles, he says. Remember I could be out there a looooong time and that should be enough food to see me through until Tuesday!
I see no reason why Mrs Stumpy cannot post – although why she would wish to be associated with this purile drivel I cannot imagine!
go Mrs Stumpy,
BMFW – you know its all in jest
Stumpy – welcome back and nutritionally I agree with you. although i may have a supply of Stoats porridge bars which could make an interesting change. Rasperry and honey, mmmmmmm
